After many quiet blog years, it was time to get some attention on my WordPress blog. I normally just update my WP theme and update plug-ins, but after a while I realised I had some bigger tasks to do. Here’s a quick list of actions and activities I undertook to give my webiste an overhaul:
- BACKUP AND RESTORE – backup website and restore using new instance.
- PHP UPGRADE – Used new AWS Lightsail instance to achieve this. This fixed support of WP plug-ins and mitigated risk of security vulnerability
- SSL CERTIFICATE – install certificate on website (via Let’s Encrypt, set to auto-renew every quarter)
For reference I used AWS Lightsail linked documentation: https://www.jaredmitcham.com/update-php-version-bitnami-wordpress/#step-2-deploy-a-new-bitnami-wordpress-instance
